Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Shade ("we", "us", "the app") handles your information when you use the Shade iOS application. Shade is operated by Hakan Tunç as an independent developer.
1. Summary
- Tooth shade analysis runs on your device. Photos are not sent to a server for AI processing.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use your data for advertising.
- We do not train AI models on your photos or your content.
- You can delete your account from inside the app at any time.
2. Information we collect
To provide Shade's features, we collect and store the following data, linked to your account:
- Account data: your email address (or Apple's private relay address) and your display name, provided through Sign in with Apple.
- Onboarding answers: non-medical lifestyle inputs you provide (age, gender, brushing habits, dietary habits, smoking status, target whitening shade, and timeline). Used solely to generate your personalized plan.
- Brush logs: the date and time of each brush session you log inside the app.
- Photos you take inside Shade: selfies of your teeth captured for shade tracking. Photos are stored in your private account so you can review progress over time.
- Shade analysis results: the on-device analysis output (e.g. detected Vita Classical shade, lighting confidence) is stored alongside the photo it was generated from.
- Subscription state: whether you have an active Shade Premium subscription, the tier, and the renewal status. This is provided by Apple's StoreKit through RevenueCat.
3. Information we do NOT collect
- We do not use the Apple Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
- We do not collect location data.
- We do not collect microphone audio.
- We do not use third-party advertising or marketing analytics.
- We do not collect health or medical records.
4. How we use your information
We use the data above strictly to operate the Shade app:
- Sign you in and keep your account active.
- Generate and display your personalized whitening plan.
- Show your brush history, photo history, and shade trend.
- Manage your subscription and access to premium features.
- Send you the local notifications you configured (brush reminders).
- Diagnose and fix crashes via Firebase Crashlytics.
5. Where your data is stored
Shade uses Google Firebase (operated by Google LLC) as its backend infrastructure:
- Firebase Authentication — stores your account identifier and email.
- Cloud Firestore — stores your profile, onboarding answers, brush logs, and plan progress.
- Firebase Storage — stores your tooth photos.
- Firebase Crashlytics — stores anonymized crash reports if Shade crashes on your device.
Subscription state is processed by RevenueCat, Inc. as a wrapper around Apple StoreKit. RevenueCat receives only your anonymous in-app user ID and your purchase receipts (not your name or email).
Both Firebase and RevenueCat act as data processors on Shade's behalf and are bound by their own privacy and security commitments. We do not enable Firebase Analytics — usage statistics are not collected.
6. Photos and on-device analysis
When you take a tooth photo inside Shade, the image is analyzed entirely on your iPhone using Apple's Vision and CoreImage frameworks. The numerical result (the detected Vita Classical shade and a confidence score) is computed locally before anything is uploaded.
The photo itself is then uploaded to your private Firebase Storage bucket so that you can view your progress timeline across devices and after a reinstall. We do not look at your photos, do not share them with third parties, and do not use them to train any AI model.
7. Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only with the processors listed in section 5, and only to the extent needed to operate the app.
We may disclose information if required by law (subpoena, court order) or to protect the safety, rights, or property of Shade or its users.
8. Data retention and deletion
We retain your data while your account is active. You can delete your account from inside the app at any time:
- Open Shade → Profile tab → Delete Account.
Account deletion permanently removes your profile, onboarding answers, brush logs, photos, and shade history from our systems within 30 days. Backups are purged on a rolling 90-day cycle. You can also email support@shadeai-app.com to request deletion.
9. Children's privacy
Shade is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International users
Firebase data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure. Depending on Firebase's regional configuration, your data may be processed in the United States or other regions where Google operates data centers. By using Shade, you consent to this transfer.
11. Your rights (GDPR / KVKK)
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Türkiye, you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict processing. To exercise these rights, email support@shadeai-app.com.
12. Security
We rely on Apple, Google Firebase, and RevenueCat industry-standard security practices, including encrypted transport (HTTPS/TLS) and encrypted storage at rest. No system is perfectly secure; if you suspect unauthorized access to your account, contact us immediately.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Shade evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
